Maybe I should call this "Zeldara's Random blog-that-she-forgets-to-update"...

Then again, I'm not sure if anyone reads this blog in the first place, so anyway...

Mario Bros. Classic

As in, that mini-game that was included with the entire Super Mario Advance series, and M&L1 as well?

Today I achieved a new high score: 553570, phase 56.

I hadn't played it in years. My previous record was... phase 43 I believe? (I would need to get out all 5 GBA games and check... Not that it really matters anymore.)

I accidentally picked up the POW block in phase 50. Lost 4 lives there. (It's good there was a bonus level on phase 51, or the Game Over would have been soon after that... But I was playing with one life remaining from 52 or 53 onward.)

By the way, the difficulty seems to even out starting at phase 40.

Difficulty increases:

Phase 1: Spinies appear
Phase 5: Crabs appear (possibly fireballs, though I believe they appear in 1-3 if you wait long enough)
Phase 7: Fighter Flies appear
Phase 10: Freezies appear
Phase 17: Icicles appear; top 2 platforms are permanently frozen except on bonus levels
Phase 20: 2 icicles can appear at once
Phase 24: Enemies recover much more quickly
Phase 31: 3 icicles can appear at once
Phase 40: 4 icicles can appear at once

Bonus levels: Phases 4, 9, 16, 23, 30, 37, 44, 51,...

Games I'm currently playing

My habit of doing a lot of things at once is certainly not limited to hacking and video projects.

Here are the games I've been playing recently (that is, since my vacation a week and a half ago).

In no particular order:

- Legend of Zelda: Parallel Worlds
- Super Metroid Redesign
- Pokémon Crystal World (Yes, I'm playing a Pokémon hack. Surprising?)
- Super Mario Bros. Crossover
- Touhou 8
- Legend of Zelda: Lost Isle
- Megaman Battle Network 3
- Touhou 11
- Touhou 10
- Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
- Pikmin 2
- The Title Is Irrelevant
- Super Mario World (for video challenge purposes)
- Touhou 12
- Touhou 5

(Of course, the Touhou games other than 8 were all first attempts over the last several days, and since they're so similar, they don't qualify that much as separate games... but even if you count them as one game, the list is still pretty long.)

(Yes, Touhou is addicting. I only decided to try the series in the first place several weeks ago... Haven't managed to complete any yet except for #8 on easy though.)

TVTropes is the most distracting site I've encountered.

Just spent over 4-5 hours distracted on TVTropes. In the middle of the night. I should have known what was coming (and in fact I did).

I actually forgot what led me there in the first place-- I usually avoid the site for exactly this reason. (I already am very likely to be distracted by wiki-type sites... (It seems to be proportional to the density of links. And TVTropes is absolutely full of them.))

(Density of links... I thought there was only one Link in any given portion of the (controversial) Zelda timeline. Isn't there?)

---

In comparison, I probably could have spent the same amount of time adding a 1-3 more levels to ZGC, fixing a few YIKR2 levels (the number depending on density of vanishing items and whether any glitches require more than a few object/sprite movements), making 1/3 to 1/2 of a YI level (or maybe less, considering how long I prefer non-joke SMW/YI levels to be), or completing 5-10 or so levels in an ordinary TSRP2 playthrough (yes the levels in my favorite hack are so difficult that they can take that long even for me, at least in the later worlds).

MMBN3 progress report #1, though it's written as if it's not the first

I finally defeated BubbleMan Beta... I managed to land both a LifeSword and a BubbleMan + Atk+10 + Aqua+30. (1200 HP, so many bubbles, and only appearing when you're at low health...)

So, I could finally open that gate in Undernet 6...

The result? A dead-end.

Really. A dead-end.

I assume a teleporter will be there later (probably by accessing Undernet 6 via Undernet 1-2-3-4-5)... Why else would the gate exist?

(Yes, I realize this will probably make no sense to people who are not familiar with Megaman Battle Network 3. I'm posting it anyway because this is a blog of random incompleteness.)

Extreme precision annoys me.

Though there are some fun difficult levels in SMG2, a lot of them are artificial difficulty, and therefore annoying.

For example, most of the comet levels (and some non-comet levels) contain extremely strict time limits, where 10 seconds of mistakes can make you fail the level.

And with SMG2's physics, one mistake can make you lose 5+ seconds.

Really... Would making all of the SMW levels have timers from 50-150 (depending on level length) make it harder? Certainly. More fun? Almost definitely not.

If those strict SMG2 time limits were multiplied by 1.5, that would have been much better.

Also, most of the levels with fair difficulty are also too short and/or have checkpoints all over the place. There's a lot more that could have been added to many levels.

Message: If you're trying to make levels difficult, make them longer and add more variety. Don't add strict time limits or extreme precision movement. Everyone is going to make mistakes sometimes; it's a lot more fun if you can recover from at least some types of mistakes.

---

Anyway, I now have a total of 102 stars.

I've unlocked (but not played) "Bowser's Galaxy Generator", which appears to be the final level. (It took 70 stars to unlock.)

However, considering that I've heard there are 242 stars overall, and I've collected nearly every star available in Worlds 1-6, I'm pretty sure there are quite a lot of worlds/galaxies left. (I wonder what happens after World 6...)

((((I like (((nested parentheses (of (mega-giga-exa-zetta-)random(ness))!)!)!))!)!)!)

Yay for (extremely random) randomness blog posting!

And don't forget RandomLucas. (If you're playing SSBB, that is. (Which is not a game I enjoy the style of (so I haven't played it in several years (and I'm using nested parentheses yet again)).))

The mustard of fink-rat doom is having fury, but not chortles. Do not forget that, and/or you may gain 1500 EXP. (Or maybe 3000.)

Then use a combination of Space Jump, the Hookshot, and the Vanish spell to reach the Infinite 1up Mushroom, which belongs to LadyKrile, and is therefore undivided by the Timespace Beam into 6 keys.

Or maybe you need to throw 247 Master Balls at it. (It's a chipgrind of destiny, all right? After all, you need 200.6% souls to get the Chaos CompleXX...)

And cat planet planet cat man planet PlanetMan.EXE.

And the physics are Phunky. (Or are they Forky? How about OWL-GET-rageous?)

Yes, random randomness is random.

And redundant redundancy is redundant.

And so, Glitch City.

+ TLs4 = ...?

...?

...!

...…,;'"()[]{}/\´`<>?! ¡¿

Oh, and all your Bass are belong to ???????. (At least on Hard 10. (But not Hard 5*. That one's merciless.))

(I had a lot of randomness to let out.)

SMG2 World 5

Now I have... 59 stars?

World 5 seems to be more fun for me than the previous worlds.

The levels are pretty difficult, and the game has reached the point where it starts re-using gimmicks instead of introducing new ones. (I prefer introducing new concepts in actual difficult levels instead of easy tutorial-like levels, anyway.)

Oh, and the upgraded version of Rightside Down is called Upside Dizzy. I find that amusing for some reason.

(As well as the concept of Supermassive Galaxy.)

Zeldara's favorite video game soundtracks

A random list.

Arranged in no particular order.

Paper Mario TTYD
Paper Mario 1
Donkey Kong Country 2
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
TSRPR
Donkey Kong 64
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
The Guardian Legend
Cool or Cruel
VVVVVV

(I may or may not edit this post if I forgot any that I particularly like.)

Note that containing one of my favorite music tracks will not necessarily place a game on this list. It needs to be a large portion of the music. (That is why Yoshi's Island is not on this list (even though its castle theme is one of my favorite video game tracks ever).)

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Yes, I've had it for a few days now.

Currently just completed World 3, with around 32 stars total so far.

I would say it's pretty fun so far, though the music is a little disappointing. (The music for the Bowser Jr. stages is great though. And I also like that they included SMW remixes this time.)

It was way too easy in World 1 (though that's probably necessary to be playable by most new gamers). World 2 was OK. World 3 was actually pretty difficult. And some of the timed challenges (comets, secret exits, etc.) are insane, requiring near-perfection.

I wonder what the rest of the worlds are like?

(No spoilers please!)

...grew to level Over9000!

Yay for double posting on my own blog!

Anyway, I decided to give my strangely-named Magikarp the Exp Share, and fought one trainer battle...

Over9000! grew to level 8!
Over9000! grew to level 9!
Over9000! grew to level 10!
Over9000! grew to level 11!
Over9000! grew to level 12!
Over9000! grew to level 13!
Not Roy grew to level 34!
...
Over9000! learned Tackle!
Over9000! grew to level 17!
Over9000! grew to level 18!
4 grew to level 28!

(Yes, the leveling up glitched or something-- either the Magikarp learned Tackle at level 16, or skipped level 16 entirely. (I wasn't paying attention to every single level number.))

(Now, to catch another low-level Magikarp later in the game, and see if I can make it learn Flail (level 30) in one battle...)

Playing through Pokémon Emerald: Overleveled Edition...

Currently in Slateport City (halfway between the 2nd and 3rd badges).

I've been buying extreme amounts of Pokéballs (no need for healing items) and randomly throwing them at anything I haven't caught (considering I don't need the EXP from every wild battle).

Pokémon so far (level only listed if they've leveled up at least once):

NOT ROY (Grovyle) Lv33
99999999 (Swellow) Lv32
4 (Skitty) Lv26
007 (Sableye) Lv24
PICKUP...? (Linoone) Lv23

In Box 4/3:
’ (Whismur)
Azurill (Marill)
WINGULL (Wingull)
zubat (Zubat)
Morton (Makuhita)
Over9000! (Magikarp)

Strategy I'm using: Give my team lots of attacking moves, and abuse the randomness of Skitty's Assist. (Yay for completely suboptimal strategies that are actually usable due to overleveling!)

Pokémon Emerald: Overleveled Edition!

In about an hour, I was able to modify Pokémon Emerald to make all Pokémon level up insanely quickly!

Not Roy defeated wild Lv2 Zigzagoon!
Not Roy gained 17 EXP!
Not Roy grew to level 6!
Not Roy learned Absorb!
Not Roy grew to level 7!

(After a few more random battles)

Not Roy is completely overleveled!
Not Roy is evolving!
And the first rival battle hasn't even happened yet!

(Yes, I named a Treecko Not Roy.)

I don't even like Pokémon... It's slow-paced and luck-reliant for my liking. (Though like most RPGs, the series as a whole has good battle themes.)

Anyway, I could upload an IPS patch if anyone's interested. (Who reads this anyway besides Mariofan1000?)

I can post comments on Blogspot now...

If I use a different Internet browser. Strange.

(Do the cookies not function correctly with Firefox or something? It only acts like I'm signed in when making new a post, editing an existing post, or on an account settings page, not when viewing the blog itself.)

0D 0A 0D 0A 0D 0A...

0A has now become the most annoying hex value.

Why does Translhextion insert an 0D before every 0A that I copy/paste?

Finally uploading SMW2+2...

Recording this hack has been delayed for a long time.

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=595E7B4F2477F3B5

(Oh no! Am I at risk of no longer being the Lady of Incompleteness? I need to find a way to record NES/GBA/GameCube/Wii!)

Challenge 9 has been interesting...

And it's still not over.

From Ludwig's Butter to Sunken G Valley

I wonder if people think SMA2 hacking isn't serious or something...

http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=thread&id=34532

The responses are pretty funny though, even if they don't really belong.

I am now unofficially bored of Tetris DS on Endless.

Why? I reached Level 195.

My hands are tired out now-- it took over an hour.

My score was 5 million or so. (I wonder if the score stops at 9999999, or continues on into 8-digits...)

Why am I not officially bored?

Because being officially bored takes too much bureaucratic paperwork, of course.

Currently attempting to hack SMA2

Yes, I am. Currently experimenting with header settings and object placement. Is that interesting?

By the way, http://www.pinkkittyrose.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=57. All right?

And that makes 3...

none of you guys seem to get what he's trying to do! it's glitchy but it all looks very intentional. It isn't a youtube hack.

Yes, I plan on recording every single time this happens (unless/until I get bored of that).

"The Pink Rose Garden"

Today I joined PinkKittyRose's forum for no real reason!

http://www.pinkkittyrose.com/forums/

(By the way, the forum title is a bit deceiving if you're not familiar with Pink. This should clear it up-- I discovered Pink through her TSRPR playthrough. (No, I would not normally join a forum with a name like "The Pink Rose Garden".))

SMWCentral Video Challenges

Challenge 7 was not that fun for me.
Challenge 8 was fun though.
Read the video descriptions for more details.

I'm currently in no-idea-which place. (Though it should be 6th or 7th or something.)

Tetris

Just playing Tetris DS recently on Endless mode...

Level 117 this time. Pretty good, I suppose. (My record is level 138.)

Yes, I said "level", not "lines".

In the description of SMW Central Video Challenge Task 5 (Re-Do) by AmpZone88:
So Zeldara109 figured he'd trumped all the non-TASers by doing a 342 huh?

Nope, apparently Zeldara109 found out you can place any boss in any level. I'm not sure how though, you could wait for him to post in this thread.

I wonder how many times something like this will happen... (It continues to surprise me-- after all, if the name isn't obvious enough, it does say "Lady of Incompleteness" at the top of both my SMWCentral profile and my YouTube channel...)

Friday, May 7, 2010

6 4/3 levels remain.

Levels remaining to make before Zeldara's Glitch City demo 89:
- #3 Cave of 3's 4/3
√ World 4-1
√ World 4-3
√ World 4-5
√ Flying Forest 3
- #6Bridge ofMystery
√ #4 NOT ROY'S CASTLE

This is a blog.

Yes, it is a blog.

Why did I create this? It was an experiment.

What will I post here? No idea.

Will there be anything substantial? Probably. (Not at the time of this post, though.)
